DESCRIPTION:jump to english version \n  \nDie Installation von William Engelen zeigt rätselhaft anmutende Partituren\, verschieden gefaltete Papiere auf im gesamten Raum verteilten Notenständern. In der Tat sind die Faltungen skulpturale Verdichtungen musikalischer Ereignisse. Ihnen entsprechend ergeben sich unterschiedliche Phasen von Stille und Klang. Bei den Papieren handelt es sich um Niederschriften einer Komposition für Perkussionist*innen – oder eher um ihren materiellen Ausdruck. Gedacht sind sie für Instrumente wie Triangel und Trommel\, aber auch für Waschbretter und Ölkanister. Auf den Blättern notierte der Künstler zunächst eine Zeitachse\, die durch die anschließenden Faltungen teilweise verdeckt wurde. Auf die noch sichtbaren Bereiche zeichnete er Notenlinien; sie markieren die Zeiträume\, in denen Klang zu hören sein soll. Die für den musikalischen Laien kaum deutbaren Partituren werden durch Musiker*innen zum Klingen gebracht. Sie reagieren dabei auch auf den Raum und auf sich verändernde Elemente wie Lichteinfall und Schattenwurf. Das Zusammenspiel von Regeln\, Notation und Zufall schafft eine beeindruckende Komposition. \n  \nDie Ausstellung ist eine Kooperation mit dem Lausitz Festival sowie der Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann\, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden und wird gefördert von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.\n \nDer Eintritt zur Ausstellung ist kostenlos. \n\n…\nIn William Engelen’s installation\, we see cryptic musical scores: sheets of paper folded in various ways on music stands placed throughout the room. These folds are sculptural compressions of musical events and result in differing phases of silence and sound. The sheets of paper contain the notation for a percussion piece but also exist simply as material objects. The music is conceived for instruments such as triangle and drums as well as washboards and oil canisters. The artist first drew on each piece of paper a durational chart\, parts of which were then concealed in the process of folding the paper. He next put musical notation on the areas that remained visible. These mark the periods of time when sounds should be heard. The scores are nearly indecipherable for outsiders\, but are turned into sound in the course of the concert. The musicians also react to the performance space and to changing elements such as light and shadow. The interaction of rules\, notation\, and chance creates an intriguing composition. \n  \nThe exhibition is a collaboration with the Lausitz Festival and the Schenkung Sammlung Hoffmann\, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and is supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media. \nEntry to the exhibition is free. \n  \n  \n\n
