DESCRIPTION:jump to english version  \n  \nAuf zahlreichen Reisen\, unter anderem in die Hafenstädte der Nord- und Ostsee sowie in die deutschen Industriegebiete\, fand Leonhard Sandrock (geb. 1867 Neumarkt/Schlesien\, gest. 1945 Berlin) zu seinen Themen. Besonders der Hamburger Hafen wurde über die Jahre zu einem Hauptmotiv\, aber auch der Darstellung von Lokomotiven\, Hochöfen und Industrieanlagen gewann er eine besondere Qualität ab. Sandrocks Interesse an technischen und industriellen Prozessen hatte sein Augenmerk von der Natur auf die Zivilisation verschoben: \n„Ich begann mich den Seeleuten bei der Arbeit zuzuwenden\, den Hochseefischern\, den Lotsen und den Schleppern\, die den Großsegler elbaufwärts führten (…dann waren es) die Werften mit den Schiffen auf den Helgen (…). Und über die Werften hinweg bin ich allmählich in die Industrie hineingeraten und bis zu den Hüttenwerken\, Hochöfen\, Stahlwerken und Kohlezechen meiner schlesischen Heimat und des Ruhrgebietes gelangt.“ \n  \nDie vom BLMK konzipierte Ausstellung zielt darauf ab\, die Entwicklung der motivischen Verschiebungen innerhalb des Œuvres von Leonhard Sandrock hin zur Bildwürdigkeit des industriellen (Arbeits)Alltags nachvollziehbar zu machen. \n  \nIn Kooperation mit dem Museum der Stadt Worms im Andreasstift \n\n…\nThe oeuvre of the painter Leonhard Sandrock (born 1867 Neumarkt/Silesia\, died 1945 Berlin) stands in the tradition of impressionistic open-air painting of the Barbizon school\, for which contrasts of light\, shadow and color are constitutive of the image. Unlike most impressionists\, there are only a few landscape views in Sandrock’s work; industrial depictions dominate. \n  \nLeonhard Sandrock found his subjects on numerous trips\, including to the port cities of the North and Baltic Seas as well as to German industrial areas. The port of Hamburg in particular became a main motif over the years\, but the depiction of locomotives\, blast furnaces and industrial plants also gained a special quality. Sandrock’s interest in technical and industrial processes had shifted his focus from nature to civilization: \n“I began to pay attention to the sailors at work\, the deep-sea fishermen\, the pilots and the tugboats who guided the tall ship up the Elbe (…then it was) the shipyards with the ships on the helgen (…). And beyond the shipyards I gradually got into industry and reached the steelworks\, blast furnaces\, steelworks and coal mines of my homeland in Silesia and the Ruhr area.” \n  \nThe exhibition designed by the BLMK aims to show the development of the motivic shifts within Leonhard Sandrock’s oeuvre towards the image-worthiness of everyday industrial (work) life. \n  \nIn cooperation with the Museum of the City of Worms in the Andreasstift
