Jenes Konvolut mit Malereien, Grafiken, Plakaten und Skulpturen wurde seit den 1970er Jahren sukzessive und systematisch aufgebaut. Es zeugt von der Vielfalt, aber auch den Kontinuitäten und Entwicklungen innerhalb des Œuvres des Künstlers über einen Zeitraum von fast 50 Jahren.

Zu jenen bildsprachlichen Verschiebungen gehören die zunehmend grafischer und schematischer gewordenen Bildgesten ebenso wie die zunehmende Konzentration auf ein Spektrum klarer Primärfarben. Deutlich wird hierbei die anfängliche Orientierung an kunsthistorisch besetzten Ikonographien, stilistischen Prägungen und dem Formenvokabular des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts, insbesondere deren expressiven Tendenzen, die zunehmend in formalen Reduktionen und farbflächigen Artikulationen mündeten.

Bei allem formalästhetischen Wandel sowie leichten Verschiebungen in der spezifischen Motiv- und Themenwelt des Künstlers bildet die Darstellung der menschlichen Figur in all ihren existenziellen Schattierungen eine Konstante.

To mark the 75th birthday of Cottbus art icon Hans Scheuerecker, the BLMK is presenting an exhibition of important works by the artist from its own collection as well as external loans. This collection of paintings, prints, posters, and sculptures has been built up gradually and systematically since the 1970s. It testifies to the diversity, but also the continuities and developments within the artist’s oeuvre over a period of almost 50 years.

These shifts in visual language include the increasingly graphic and schematic pictorial gestures, as well as the growing focus on a spectrum of clear primary colors. This clearly reveals his initial orientation towards art-historically established iconographies, stylistic influences, and the formal vocabulary of the early 20th century, particularly its expressive tendencies, which increasingly culminated in formal reductions and color-based articulations.

Despite all the formal aesthetic changes and slight shifts in the artist’s specific world of motifs and themes, the depiction of the human figure in all its existential shades remains a constant.
